We are an intersectional group of community members, parents and allies who are passionate about the LGBTQIA+ community here in Greater Saline. We are committed to doing whatever we can to help ensure the rights and improve the lives/experiences of LGBTQIA+ residents, visitors and their families. We know that a diverse, welcoming, affirming and supportive community is a richer, stronger, more vibrant and happier community for all!
To achieve our goals, we intend to:
- work closely with the schools, the city and the townships, providing resources and support to help those institutions better serve their LGBTQ+ students, constituents and families;
- provide needed resources and support directly to LGBTQ+ students and community members;
- host positive, affirming, fun events for LGBTQ+ residents and those who love and support them;
- provide resources and host events to educate the public about issues facing LGBTQ+ community members;
- work with local groups/organizations that support other marginalized and underrepresented populations in the area, in order to create partnerships and synergies that will benefit the whole community (‘intersectionality’ informs everything we do!);
- when necessary, speak out at board meetings and/or council meetings, and rally the community to stand up for the rights, safety and dignity of its LGBTQ+ members.
This is not an exhaustive list. We have other ideas, and we are a small, flexible organization that will have the ability to pivot as circumstances change and needs arise. Since our inception, one of our top priorities has been standing up for and meeting the needs of transgender youth in our schools and our community — and given the current political climate, this remains a top priority.
Thanks for your support!
